SUMMARY

The Strategic Air Command & Aerospace Museum Education Outreach Specialist is a staff position responsible for developing and delivering educational STEM programming in a variety of ways both in the museum and on outreaches throughout the community. This position daily not only performs activities of the department but also has a positive attitude, values teamwork, and is able to manage their time well. This position reports to the Education Program Manager.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Under the supervision of the Education Program Manager; deliver education programs in support of: K-12 educational field trips to the museum
    • Preparation of spaces and materials for field trips
    • Execution of scheduled activities according to the schedule for each field trip
    • Cleanup of all spaces utilized in field trips
    • Consistently verifying supplies used/needed, and reporting to appropriate Education Program Manager
  • Under the supervision of the Education Program Manager; deliver education programs in support of: K-12 summer and winter camps at the museum
    • Preparation of spaces and materials for camps
    • Execution of scheduled activities according to the schedule for each camp
    • Cleanup of all spaces utilized in camp
    • Consistently verifying supplies used/needed, and reporting to appropriate Education Program Manager
  • Under the supervision of the Education Program Manager; deliver education programs in support of: Middle and Elementary school’s out of school time programming on-site at school
    • Preparation of supplies and materials for outreach
    • Execution of scheduled activities according to the lesson plan for each session
    • Travel to and from each outreach
    • Consistently verifying supplies used/needed, and reporting to appropriate Education Program Manager
  • Cross-train on all education programs:
    • Above standard to excellence in all field trip options
    • Above standard to excellence in all summer and winter camp activities
    • Above standard to excellence in all demonstrations
    • Above standard to excellence in all afterschool programming activities
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with special groups and schools.
  • Prepare materials, activities and spaces for education events as needed
  • Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s in education, museum studies, or related STEM field (preferred).
  • At least 2 years of relevant teaching or museum experience (preferred).
  • Some sales or customer service experience.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
  • A team player committed to developing a positive work environment.
  • Knowledge and working experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Commuting between Museum and schools in Omaha/Lincoln required
  • Work may be performed both indoors and outdoors.
  • Work outside of normal business hours – evenings, weekends, and holidays as necessary
  • Some outdoor work (camps and events) may be performed in varying weather conditions.
  • Physical work will include and require lifting items of no more than 30 pounds.

JOB CLASSIFICATION: Full-time, hourly.
